Wind components, generators and gearboxes — long, heavy and awkward, which is the combination most yards turn away.
Renewable energy equipment is difficult to store for a specific reason: the individual pieces are enormous, and the projects they belong to run on schedules that slip. Something has to hold a nacelle or a set of gearboxes between the factory and the site, and it has to be able to lift them.

Two pick points, not one
This is where we differ from a yard with space and a forklift.
One of our buildings carries a 30 ton and a 20 ton overhead crane, which run in tandem for lifts up to 100,000 pounds. Two cranes means two pick points — so a long item comes up level instead of bending under its own weight. For tower sections, long skids and drivetrain assemblies, that is the difference between a routine lift and one nobody will take on.
Beyond that we bring in outside crane companies we work with regularly, and routinely handle equipment well over 200,000 pounds. More on rigging and handling.
Indoors or out
Tower sections and coated structural components are usually fine on the twelve-acre stabilized yard, staged and released as the installation schedule allows.
Generators, gearboxes, converters and anything with windings or bare machined surfaces belong in humidity controlled space. A gearbox that has sat through two Gulf Coast summers in an open yard is not the same gearbox that went in.
On request we also carry out preservation work during storage — shaft rotation, space heaters, nitrogen purge — so equipment comes out ready to commission.
